In memory of my mother. After Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia, Anna’s charmed life came to an end. Separated from her husband, she was stranded in Occupied France with her two little girls. With amazing chutzpah, she defied the Nazis by acting as an interpreter for the Germans, while secretly working for the Underground. Singlehandedly, she stopped the deportation of many locals who vouched for her release when the French imprisoned her as a collaborator. Seventeen of her family, including her father and sister, were murdered. Reunited with her husband after the war, they rebuilt a new life in America. Anna met “Que Sera, Sera” head on. With love, Sonia.
