I was born on December 14, 1931, in Moscow, Russia. I was evacuated to another Russian state in 1941, at the age of 9. While my father was fighting in the war and my mother was very ill, I made and sold cigarettes to support my family, and I was questioned by the police for doing so. My father returned from the war missing a leg and struggled to earn a living. The hunger I experienced and the need to provide for my family spurred me on to earn a university degree. I would like to emphasize the importance of good nutrition and medical care for children since it is the foundation of a healthy life.
