When I was seven years old my mother began to relate the story of her and my father. My parents Rosa and David were each married and each had a child before WWII. They both survived the horrors of the Nazi concentration camps and married in Germany in a displaced persons camp. They arrived in the United States three months before my birth and began to create a family again. We were never financially wealthy, but I was taught to value education, honesty, hard work and my Jewish heritage. As a wife, mother, grandmother and educator, I have written, spoken and taught about my parents’ experiences and the Shoah. We must remember the past, live in the present and hope for a peaceful tomorrow.
